Stress-strain curve prediction of steel HAZ based on hardness

T. Kasuya et al.

Summary: The prediction of stress-strain curves in steel HAZ is complex due to the multiple phases and continuous variation of HAZ microstructure. Empirical equations based on hardness have been developed to predict the stress-strain curve, with comparisons showing accurate predictions within 100 MPa error for steel strength up to 980 MPa. The model provides useful information for evaluating weld joint qualities.

The Role of HAZ Softening on Cross-Tension Mechanical Performance of Martensitic Advanced High Strength Steel Resistance Spot Welds

M. Tamizi et al.

Summary: Giga-grade martensitic advanced high-strength steels are susceptible to sub-critical heat-affected zone softening during resistance spot welding, affecting the strength of the welds. To achieve strong and reliable weld joints, control of martensitic tempering in the heat-affected zone and use of the minimum welding current are necessary.

Measurement of local material properties and failure analysis of resistance spot welds of advanced high-strength steel sheets

Yunwu Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigated the deformation and failure behaviors of resistance spot welded JSC980YL steel using miniature mechanical tests, and developed a new mini-peel test for numerical inverse calibration of constitutive parameters. The results showed that the ultimate tensile strengths of the nugget and corona bond were different from that of the base material, with different failure modes observed.
