Selective patterning of out-of-plane piezoelectricity in MoTe2 via focused ion beam

Daehee Seol et al.

Summary: It has been demonstrated that focused ion beams can create out-of-plane piezoelectricity on multi-layered MoTe2, and the selectively patterned out-of-plane piezoelectricity in the desired area was quantitatively examined using atomic force microscopy. This approach is expected to expand the application fields of TMD-based devices.

Exploring argon plasma effect on ferroelectric Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 thin film atomic layer deposition

Jae Hur et al.

Summary: The doped/alloyed HfO2 and ZrO2 thin films have brought revolution to both the field of ferroelectric physics and various device applications, especially when combined in a 1:1 ratio for distinctive ferroelectric polarization. Through controlling process conditions and additional Ar plasma treatment, researchers are able to manipulate the ferroelectric and antiferroelectric phases of HZO films.

Quantitative Local Probing of Polarization with Application on HfO2-Based Thin Films

Owoong Kwon et al.

Summary: Ferroelectric materials have been widely used in various fields due to their switchable spontaneous polarization. With the decrease in characteristic sizes of devices and materials below the nanoscale, appropriate characterization tools have become essential. A novel method based on high-frequency AFM-PUND has been proposed for measuring polarization-voltage hysteresis loops, showing promising results in evaluating nanoscale polarization values of ferroelectrics.

Reversible oxygen migration and phase transitions in hafnia-based ferroelectric devices

Pavan Nukala et al.

Summary: This study found that ferroelectricity in hafnia-based thin films is closely related to oxygen voltammetry, as reversible oxygen vacancy migration is observed when the top electrode is oxygen reactive, with electrodes serving as sources and sinks of oxygen, and the dielectric layer acting as a fast conduit at millisecond time scales.
