The reaction of [(NdI)(3)N-2] (I) with Cp3Er in the presence of sulfur in THF yielded CpNdI2(THF), NdI(S2N2)(THF), and an unidentified erbium compound. Similarly, the reaction of [(DyI)(3)N-2] produced CpDyI2(THF) and ErI(S2N2)(THF). Furthermore, the reaction of I with ErCl3 resulted in the formation of [Nd2ErClI4-(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(7)] and [Nd2ErCl2I3(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(7)].
The reaction of [(NdI)(3)N-2] (I) with Cp3Er in the presence of sulfur in THF gave CpNdI2(THF), NdI(S2N2)(THF), and an unidentified erbium compound. A similar reaction of [(DyI)(3)N-2] yielded CpDyI2(THF) and ErI(S2N2)(THF). When I reacted with ErCl3, the clusters [Nd2ErClI4-(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(7)] and [Nd2ErCl2I3(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(7)] were formed in 33-34% yield. From the mixture of reaction products of [(DyI)(3)N-2] with sulfur and NdI3, only [Nd2DyI5(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(7)] was isolated in a minor yield and identified. Europium diiodide EuI2 almost did not react with complex I and sulfur under the chosen conditions. The starting EuI2 (50%) and previously characterized cluster [Nd3I5(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(9)] were isolated from the reaction mixture.
