CHANGES OF FIXATION STABILITY AND LOCATION AFTER EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE SURGERY

Xiaohan Yang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery on fixation stability and position changes. The results showed that patients experienced significant improvement in fixation stability and position after surgery. Factors such as poorer visual acuity, larger bivariate contour ellipse area, thicker central fovea thickness, and longer preferred retinal locus-fovea distance were associated with improved fixation stability and position after surgery.

MICROCYSTIC MACULAR EDEMA AND CYSTOID MACULAR EDEMA BEFORE AND AFTER EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE SURGERY

Dong Hyun Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the types of intraretinal cysts associated with epiretinal membranes and their effects on postoperative outcomes. It found that microcystic macular edema (MME) was a poor prognostic factor for epiretinal membrane surgery. Factors such as absence of preoperative MME, poorer initial visual acuity, increased central foveal thickness, and intact ellipsoidal zone were associated with favorable visual recovery. Further research should explore whether early surgical intervention before the development of MME benefits visual outcomes.

Epiretinal Membrane Surgery: Structural Retinal Changes Correlate with the Improvement of Visual Function

Andrea Cacciamani et al.

Summary: This study analyzed structural retinal changes with SD-OCT and found that postoperative thickness decreases of the IRL, INL, and OPL were correlated with visual acuity improvements in patients with ERM undergoing PPV. The re-compaction of these retinal layers after relieving ERM-induced traction may play an important role in postoperative visual function improvement.

The visual outcomes of idiopathic epiretinal membrane removal in eyes with ectopic inner foveal layers and preserved macular segmentation

Michele Coppola et al.

Summary: BCVA significantly improved over 12 months after epiretinal membrane removal surgery, regardless of the presence of ectopic inner foveal layers (EIFL). However, eyes with no EIFL had better BCVA at month 3, but this difference was no longer detectable at 6 and 12 months. The presence of EIFL was not associated with the final BCVA, but correlated with the central macular thickness at 12 months.
