Recycling and valorization of glass fibre thermoset composite waste by cold incorporation into a sustainable inorganic polymer matrix

Yixue Zhang et al.

Summary: Industrial applications using recycled fibres or resins are still rare due to inferior performance to cost ratio. Mechanical frictional grinding is utilized to recover the reinforcement fibres, and incorporating all the recycled GFRP waste into a Fe-rich silicate slag shows remarkable flexural strength enhancement in the inorganic matrix.

Solvothermal degradation and reuse of carbon fiber reinforced boron phenolic resin composites

Zongyi Deng et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the recycling of carbon fibers via solvothermal degradation of CF/BPR composites, achieving a high degradation ratio of 98.3%. The study focused on the effects of KOH concentration, reaction time, and temperature on the degradation ratio, as well as the characterization of surface and microstructural properties of both virgin and recycled carbon fibers. The mechanical tests showed that recycled carbon fibers reinforced boron phenolic resin composites had superior flexural strength compared to virgin ones.
