Pre-treatment of used cooking oils for the production of green chemicals: A review

Juliana Cardenas et al.

Summary: The utilization of waste lipids in the production of higher value-added and green chemicals will be a common practice in the future to enhance the sustainability of the olechemical industry. Refining processes are necessary to obtain suitable oleochemical feedstocks due to the heterogeneous nature and impurities present in waste lipids. Various technologies for pre-treatment, purification, and refining of waste lipids have been reviewed in this work, with a focus on transforming used cooking oils into oleochemical raw materials.
