Solar energy protects steels against corrosion: Advancing Sn doped hematite as photoanode

Jiajia Cai et al.

Summary: PECP offers sustainable protection for metals, but the wide bandgap of photoanodes limits solar energy utilization. This study reveals that alpha-Fe2O3, especially with Sn doping, can significantly enhance PECP performance by increasing carrier density, shifting flat band potential, and suppressing photocarrier recombination. The findings suggest a promising strategy to improve the efficiency of PECP.

Synergetic integration of passivation layer and oxygen vacancy on hematite nanoarrays for boosted photoelectrochemical water oxidation

Hua-Min Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a method to improve the photoelectrochemical water oxidation performance of hematite photoanodes by using MoO3 modification. The MoO3 layer acts as an effective passivation component to decrease surface states and enhance charge separation and transfer efficiency. The introduction of oxygen vacancies further boosts the electrical conductivity and charge separation and transfer, leading to an increased photocurrent density. The synergistic integration of passivation layer and oxygen vacancies on photoelectrodes offers an efficient paradigm for solar energy conversion.
