Hybrid choice model dataset of a representative Swiss online panel survey on peoples' preferences related to mixed renewable energy scenarios in landscapes and the effect of landscape-technology fit

B. Salak et al.

Summary: The study presents preference data on mixed renewable energy infrastructure in landscapes based on a national representative Swiss online panel survey. The questionnaire included questions on landscapes, nature, and renewable energy infrastructure meanings, as well as evaluations of the fit between different Swiss landscapes and renewable energy infrastructure combinations. Through a stated choice experiment, respondents were presented with 15 consecutive choice tasks involving energy system transformation options and analyzed using a hybrid choice model.

If one goes up, another must come down: A latent class hybrid choice modelling approach for understanding electricity mix preferences among renewables and non-renewables

Antonio Borriello et al.

Summary: Many countries, states, and territories have set targets to increase the share of renewable sources for electricity generation in their energy policies. A study in Australia showed heterogeneous preferences for energy mix composition, with higher willingness to pay for biomass and younger, male, pro-environmental individuals showing support for hydro and solar over gas and nuclear sources.

Physiological and behavioral reactions to renewable energy systems in various landscape types

R. Spielhofer et al.

Summary: The research findings suggest that viewing landscapes with high RES can lead to higher physiological arousal, while participants tend to prefer landscapes with low RES, especially natural landscapes. Preferences for landscape also varied significantly among different landscape types.

How landscape-technology fit affects public evaluations of renewable energy infrastructure scenarios. A hybrid choice model

B. Salak et al.

Summary: In response to climate change, many countries are realigning their energy systems towards sustainability, including the development of renewable energy infrastructure such as wind and photovoltaic. This study evaluates the role of landscape-technology fit and latent meanings in decision-making processes, with prior experience (exposure) playing a significant role. Results indicate that landscape-technology fit acts as a moderator between choice attributes and preferences, influenced by landscape and renewable energy meanings, which are in turn influenced by relevant prior experience (exposure).
