Identifying and assessing power system vulnerabilities to transmission asset outages via cascading failure analysis

Blazhe Gjorgiev et al.

Summary: This paper presents a methodology for assessing power system vulnerability by ranking important branches in the transmission grid and identifying sets of branches that would cause the most severe cascading failures. The methodology couples an AC based cascading failure simulation model and a meta-heuristic optimization procedure to achieve these objectives.

Cascading failure analysis and robustness optimization of metro networks based on coupled map lattices: a case study of Nanjing, China

Yi Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigates cascading failure in metro networks using a bi-directional coupled map lattice model, proposing a flow redistribution method and finding that different passenger flow redistribution strategies have a significant impact on the robustness of metro networks. The optimal eta for Nanjing metro is found to be in the range of (0.3, 0.4), providing valuable insights for dynamic safety assessment and emergency management of passenger flow in metro networks.

Vulnerability assessments of weighted urban rail transit networks with integrated coupled map lattices

Jianhua Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an integrated coupled map lattices (ICML) to assess the vulnerability of weighted urban rail transit networks (URTNs) under external disturbance R. By refining passenger flow and adopting three parameters, the model is verified using Nanjing metro network. Results show a linear relationship between node and edge betweenness, and URTNs are susceptible to attacks and become more vulnerable with increased external disturbance. Furthermore, attacks based on largest degree nodes and highest betweenness nodes have different impacts on URTNs, with critical thresholds identified for smashing the network.

Using the disaster spreading theory to analyze the cascading failure of urban rail transit network

Wencheng Huang et al.

Summary: A new dynamic model was established to analyze the cascading failure in the urban rail transit network by considering time cost and disaster spreading theory. The study found that the scale of failed stations is largest when fixed transfer stations are attacked, and there is a positive correlation between self-recovery factor and cascading failure scale.

Vulnerability Assessment of the Urban Rail Transit Network Based on Travel Behavior Analysis

Bing Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel model to analyze the cascading failure of weighted URTNs, taking into account the impact of changes in travel costs and modes on passenger flow redistribution. The results showed that the estimated operation interruption time of the station (EOITS) has a major impact on the vulnerability of URTNs, leading to more diverse travel behavior of passengers and making the cascading failure process more challenging to control.

Measure Vulnerability of Metro Network Under Cascading Failure

Yuanyuan Wang et al.

Summary: The metro network is essential for modern cities, but its vulnerability to cascading failures can lead to network collapse. This study proposes a method to effectively measure metro network vulnerability by considering demand loss and travel delay under cascading failure. Using the Shanghai metro network as an example, five attack scenarios were simulated to reveal the severe consequences of cascading failures and factors affecting network vulnerability.
