Investigation on elastic properties and electronic structure of dilute Ir-based alloys by first-principles calculations

Wei Yu et al.

Summary: By using first principles calculations and density functional theory, this study investigated the effect of 33 alloying elements on the ductility of dilute Ir-based alloys, finding that most alloying elements are difficult to dissolve in the Ir matrix. A composition-dependent elastic properties model for Ir-X binary alloys was constructed, which can describe the properties of Ir-based multicomponent alloys.

Solid-solution strengthening effects in binary Ni-based alloys evaluated by high-throughput calculations

Ming-Xu Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the strengthening effects of alloying elements in Ni are influenced by their positions on the periodic table, with elements at the ends of each period showing higher strengthening abilities than those in the middle. For elements in the 5th and 6th period, lattice misfit was found to dominate the strengthening effect. Experimental solubilities were used to evaluate the strengthening potentials of these elements.

Thermodynamic properties of the Yb-Sb system predicted from first-principles calculations

XiaoYu Chong et al.

Summary: In this study, the thermodynamic properties of the Yb-Sb system were investigated using a first-principles based quasiharmonic phonon approach. The results indicate that the combination of the PBEsol functional and specific pseudopotentials provides the best description of the relative phase stabilities and thermodynamic properties. Additionally, it was found that the Yb16Sb11 compound is stable and the strong Yb-Sb bonding is crucial for the stability of various compounds at high temperatures.
