Radiation shielding study of WO3-ZnO-PbO-B2O3 glasses using Geant4 and Phys-X: A comparative study

Y. Al-Hadeethi et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the radiation shielding ability of WO3-ZnO-PbO-B2O3 glasses and the impact of WO3 on the shielding behavior. The results show that the transmission factor decreases with the increase in glass thickness and energy of the photon, while the radiation protection efficiency increases with the thickness of the glass and the amount of WO3. The study suggests that the glass with the highest density attenuates more photons as the linear attenuation coefficient almost doubles when the density is doubled.

A compton scattering technique for wood characteristics using FLUKA Monte Carlo code

Amandeep Sharma et al.

Summary: This study uses the FLUKA Monte Carlo code to investigate gamma photon scattering characteristics in various density woods and validates the simulations with laboratory findings, showing a strong correlation between simulation and experiment results. The research reveals that as wood density increases, the interaction parameters with gamma photons decrease accordingly. The study concludes that FLUKA simulation is a convenient and cost-effective method for estimating important parameters for wood processors and product users.

Influence of WO3 incorporation on synthesis, optical, elastic and radiation shielding properties of borosilicate glass system

Summary: Glass samples with varying concentrations of WO3 were prepared using a melting and rapid quench method, confirming their amorphous structure with X-ray diffraction. The elastic properties were evaluated using Makishima-Mackenzie's theory and compared with different theoretical models. Geant4 simulations were used to assess the radiation shielding efficiency of the borosilicate glass system, showing its potential use in radiation shielding applications.
