Investigating δ13C values in stalagmites from tropical South America for the last two millennia

Valdir Felipe Novello et al.

Summary: This study focuses on investigating the influence of local hydroclimate, altitude, temperature, and vegetation types on the delta C-13 values in stalagmites. The results show that the main factors influencing delta C-13 values are associated with the local hydroclimate, and there is a significant correlation between delta C-13 and delta O-18 values in most records.

The resilience of Amazon tree cover to past and present drying

Tyler Kukla et al.

Summary: The Amazon forest has shown resilience to drying conditions in the mid-Holocene, likely due to weak feedbacks that amplify tree cover loss with drying. Modern tree cover is likely similarly resilient to mid-Holocene levels of aridification under limited human interference. Human-driven fire and deforestation pose a greater threat to the future of Amazon ecosystems than drying alone.

The residence time of water vapour in the atmosphere

Luis Gimeno et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the importance and influencing factors of atmospheric water vapour residence time, indicating an expected increase in residence time with climate warming. Factors such as evaporation, precipitation, and atmospheric humidity play a role in shaping water vapour residence time, with future research focusing on data integration and dynamic simulations.

Patterned Villagescapes and Road Networks in Ancient Southwestern Amazonia

Sanna Saunaluoma et al.

Summary: The recent study of archaeological plaza villages in the Brazilian Acre state shows a well-defined pattern of size, layout, chronology, and material culture, connected by road networks within and outside the region, suggesting large, sedentary populations sharing sociocultural identities and structured patterns of movement. This research highlights the significance of road networks in facilitating human transport and interaction among interfluvial populations in the late precolonial period.
