The Ticino-Toce glacier system (Swiss-Italian Alps) in the framework of the Alpine Last Glacial Maximum

Sarah Kamleitner et al.

Summary: We present a new glacier chronology of the Ticino-Toce glacier in the Southern Alps, reconstructing the timing and extent of its Last Glacial Maximum advance with detailed landform relationships and surface exposure dating. The study reveals that the glacier remained relatively stable with only minor oscillations over a period of approximately 5000 years, and the Verbano piedmont lobe was larger than previously thought. Additionally, the research suggests synchronized glacier advances across the Western Alps, except for the southwestern massifs.

A high-resolution speleothem proxy record of the Late Glacial in the European Alps: extending the NALPS19 record until the beginning of the Holocene

Hanying Li et al.

Summary: Previous research demonstrated that speleothems from the northern rim of the European Alps exhibit exceptional sensitivity and resolution in capturing submillennial-scale climate changes during the last glacial period, resembling Greenland ice-core records. The analysis of two stalagmites in this study confirmed the similarity in temperature rise at specific time points with the Greenland ice cores and also provided insights into the transition from cold stadial periods to warmer interstadial periods. Additionally, the study showed that delta C-13 values do not respond to short-term climate shifts due to rock-buffering effects but reflect a long-term trend of soil development linked to temperature changes.

Last Lateglacial glacier advance in the Gran Paradiso Group reveals relatively drier climatic conditions established in the Western Alps since at least the Younger Dryas

Carlo Baroni et al.

Summary: The study conducted a detailed reconstruction of glacier advances in the Gran Paradiso group in the Western Alps of Italy during the Egesen stadial, indicating that the relatively drier conditions in the area postdate the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and were already present during the Egesen stadial. The results support a strong positive Younger Dryas Arctic Oscillation index, leading to drier conditions in southern Europe.

Complex causes of landslides after ice sheet retreat: Post-LGM mass movements in the Northern Patagonian Icefield region

Tomas Panek et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution of landslides in a large deglaciated area within the Northern Patagonian Icefield, revealing that deep-seated landslides tend to cluster along the eastern edge of the Andes. The research suggests that geological conditions and paraglacial effects are the main factors influencing the distribution and types of landslides, with local clusters of large landslides originating from specific post-glacial landscape evolution.

Summary: This study aims to fill the gap in documenting climatic variations during the Last Glacial-to-Interglacial Transition (LGIT) in the eastern Pyrenees. By reconstructing glacier behavior during this period, the results show rapid deglaciation with rising ELA, temperature, and precipitation, and a cold and dry environment persisting until the Greenland Interstadial GI-1.

Geomorphic response to the Lateglacial-Holocene transition in high Alpine regions (Sanetsch Pass, Swiss Alps)

Elena Serra et al.

Summary: This study provides a detailed reconstruction of the palaeoenvironmental conditions and geomorphic connectivity in the Sanetsch Pass area in the Western Swiss Alps during the Late Glacial-Holocene transition. The results reveal rapid and transient landscape changes in high Alpine regions during this period, showing an increase in sediment flux and the establishment of paraglacial and periglacial geomorphic processes.
