Socioeconomic consequences of parenting a child with cancer for fathers and mothers in Sweden: A population-based difference-in-difference study

Mattias Ohman et al.

Summary: This study in Sweden investigates the socioeconomic consequences of childhood cancer for parents, showing negative short- and long-term effects on earnings and employment for both fathers and mothers, with a more significant impact on fathers' earnings. However, there is a positive long-term effect on mothers' earnings, and no effect on the number of inpatient diagnoses of mental and behavioral disorders for either parent. The novel findings suggest the need for changes in clinical practice and health policies for parents of children with cancer.
