Phytoplankton growth and grazing mortality through the oligotrophic subtropical North Pacific

Siyu Jiang et al.

Summary: The study found that in the subtropical North Pacific, phytoplankton growth is strongly consumed by microzooplankton grazing, especially in the central North Pacific region. However, the phytoplankton growth rate in the central North Pacific is fast, mainly due to the dominance of Prochlorococcus.

Progress in understanding of Indian Ocean circulation, variability, air-sea exchange, and impacts on biogeochemistry

Helen E. Phillips et al.

Summary: In the past decade, advancements in measuring ocean circulation and air-sea exchanges, as well as the application of new technologies, have significantly enhanced our understanding of the Indian Ocean. New circulation pathways and mechanisms controlling atmospheric and oceanic states have been discovered. The discovery of a new regional climate mode in the southeast Indian Ocean and increased research on regional air-sea coupling and marine heatwaves have been key developments in the global oceans.

Interannual variability of the spring Wyrtki Jet

Kangping Deng et al.

Summary: The interannual variability of the spring Wyrtki Jet in the tropical Indian Ocean shows significant correlation with the winter El Nino Modoki index, displaying evident impact on sea surface salinity transport before the onset phase of the summer monsoon in the Indian Ocean. This study reveals that the jet has substantial interannual variation and is influenced by surface wind anomalies related to the Walker circulation anomaly associated with El Nino/La Nina Modoki.
