The spectral characteristics and cadmium complexation of soil dissolved organic matter in a wide range of forest lands

Xiaoqing Zhang et al.

Summary: The quality and quantity of dissolved organic matter (DOM) have a significant impact on the fate of heavy metals. This study analyzed the DOM spectral characteristics of forest soils and the complex capacities between fluorescent DOM components and cadmium (Cd). The results showed that fulvic acid substances exhibited stronger and more stable interactions with Cd than protein-like components.

The fate of antibiotic resistance genes in cow manure composting: shaped by temperature-controlled composting stages

Muhammad Fahad Sardar et al.

Summary: This study conducted temperature controlled aerobic composting and found that antibiotic resistance genes significantly decreased in the initial phase but increased in the later stages. The composting properties, especially temperature, had a significant impact on bacterial community and the abundance of antibiotic resistance genes.

Impacts of cadmium addition on the alteration of microbial community and transport of antibiotic resistance genes in oxytetracycline contaminated soil

Honghong Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that under the influence of heavy metals, the abundance and translocation of antibiotic resistance genes and potential human pathogenic bacteria in antibiotic-contaminated soil may increase, potentially affecting crops. Bacterial community succession is a major factor in the variation of ARGs, with the main host bacteria of ARGs mainly derived from Proteobacteria.

Exposure to heavy metal and antibiotic enriches antibiotic resistant genes on the tire particles in soil

Jing Ding et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that tire particles in soil provide a new niche for soil bacteria and resistome, and exposure to heavy metals and antibiotics may increase the abundance of ARGs on these particles, posing a threat to soil ecosystems and human health.
