Removal characteristics of organic pollutants by the adsorbent injection coupled with bag filtering system

Xiuwei Ma et al.

Summary: Activated carbon injection coupled with bag filtering is a promising technology for the treatment of organic pollutants in the flue gas of coal-fired power plants. The removal efficiency of VOCs in the ACI+BF system is affected by factors such as adsorption temperature, VOC concentration, AC feeding rate, and residence time. The process of VOC removal by the ACI+BF system can be divided into adsorption in the pipeline and adsorption in the bag filter, with the bag filter playing an important role in the overall removal efficiency. Increasing the pipeline length and reducing the frequency of filter bag cleaning can enhance the removal efficiency of organic pollutants.

Competitive adsorption of multicomponent volatile organic compounds on biochar

Hamid Rajabi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the competitive adsorption of mixed volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on biochar, showing that competition for sorption sites leads to a decrease in individual species' sorption capacity while maintaining the overall sorption capacity. Chemical interactions through hydrogen bonds, electrostatic attraction, and pore-filling are found to be the main mechanisms of VOC adsorption on biochar. Additionally, biochar regeneration efficiency is between 88% and 96%, indicating potential formation of permanent bonds during the sorption process.

Synthesis of N-doped hierarchical porous carbon with excellent toluene adsorption properties and its activation mechanism

Shengyong Lu et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a series of nitrogen-doped hierarchical porous carbons (NHPCs) with high specific surface area and pore volume. NHPCs showed high adsorption capacity for toluene and the characteristics improved with fluctuations in raw materials and active agents proportions. The micropore size of the material is the main factor affecting the toluene adsorption capacity.

Removal of volatile organic compounds from the coal-fired flue gas by adsorption on activated carbon

Xiuwei Ma et al.

Summary: The removal of VOCs from coal-fired power plants is crucial in reducing emissions into the atmosphere. Adsorption on activated carbon is an effective method but can be affected by factors such as temperature and the presence of other gases. Competitive adsorption may occur when SO2, water vapor, and fly ash coexist, impacting the overall VOCs removal efficiency. Selecting activated carbon with large micropore volume and extending adsorption time can enhance the VOCs removal process.

Migration and emission characteristics of N-alkanes and phthalates in condensable particulate matter from coal-fired sources

Yujia Wu et al.

Summary: CPM, containing harmful organic pollutants, is the dominant component of total particulate matter emitted from coal combustion. The concentrations of n-alkanes and phthalates in CPM were significantly lower in coal-fired power units compared to coal-fired industrial units. Dry-type precipitators showed effective control of C-N and C-P emissions, with varying effects observed with desulfurization systems and wet-type precipitators.

Non-thermal plasma coupled with catalysis for VOCs abatement: A review

Miaomiao Qu et al.

Summary: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from industrial processes are harmful pollutants, and hybrid plasma-catalytic technology is an efficient method for their removal. The synergy between non-thermal plasma (NTP) and catalysts plays a key role in VOC abatement. Specific examples of VOCs removed using the NTP-catalyst technology are reviewed, with emphasis on controlling by-products and discussing future applications.

Effects of air pollution control devices on volatile organic compounds reduction in coal-fired power plants

Shurui Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated VOC concentrations in flue gas samples from coal-fired power plants and industrial boilers. It found that SCR systems and ESP can synergistically remove VOCs, while WFGD affects different VOCs in varying ways. Wet electrostatic precipitators (WESP) were found to increase VOC emissions.

Emission of organic components and distribution characteristics of PAHs in condensable particulate matter from coal-fired power and industrial plants

Yujia Wu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that fine particles emitted from coal combustion pose a hidden threat to the ecological environment and human health, with organic fractions dominating the emitted particulate matter and a relatively high content of saturated hydrocarbons. The removal effect of air pollution control devices on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is effective, and 4-ring C-PAHs contribute significantly to the emissions.
