Anorthite-based transparent glass-ceramic glaze for ceramic tiles: Preparation and crystallization mechanism

Shaohua Wang et al.

Summary: A series of high hardness anorthite-based transparent glass-ceramic glazes were successfully developed for ceramic tiles, showing excellent transparency and hardness. The anorthite crystals in the glazes were lamellar-shaped, and could crystallize directly from the frit glaze at 850 degrees C.

Evaluation of microwave acid baking on Indian red mud sample

Shrey Agrawal et al.

Summary: The study validates the use of microwave heating for acid baking and leaching of red mud to dissolve metallic values. The process significantly reduces processing time and improves metal dissolution using low pH values. The precipitation and calcination of metallic values can produce a product containing different refractory phases, allowing for separation of iron and titanium values.

Red mud for the efficient adsorption of U(VI) from aqueous solution: Influence of calcination on performance and mechanism

Wanying Wu et al.

Summary: This study produced macroporous iron and carbon combined calcined red mud (ICRM) and carbon calcined red mud (CRM) through calcination in the range of 500-800 degrees C, revealing advantageous performances with stable U adsorption capacities. The main adsorption mechanisms of ICRM are surface electrostatic attraction, physical adsorption by porous structure, and chemical adsorption by active Al and Fe components. Overall, ICRM offers theoretical guidances to radioactive drainage management and red mud reuse by exhibiting superior U adsorption capacity and positive potential charges under acidic conditions.

Co-carbonization of red mud and waste sawdust for functional application as Fenton catalyst: Evaluation of catalytic activity and mechanism

Ruirui Sun et al.

Summary: The synthesis of RMBC composite through co-carbonization of red mud and waste sawdust is effective for Rhodamine B (RhB) oxidation, displaying both adsorption and catalytic effects. The activation of hydrogen peroxide by RMBC shows a low activation energy, and the dominant role of hydroxyl radical in solution for RhB oxidation is verified. The limitations of RMBC for heterogeneous catalysis may be overcome by regulating its alkaline feature, making it a green and sustainable approach for wastewater treatment.
