Methodology for quantitative risk analysis of domino effects triggered by flood

Tao Zeng et al.

Summary: A methodology is proposed for incorporating flood-induced domino effects in quantitative risk assessment, and its effectiveness is demonstrated through a case study. The study reveals a significant increase in overall risk for chemical industrial areas when considering domino effects, highlighting the importance of risk analysis for Natech-related scenarios.

Assessment of risk modification due to safety barrier performance degradation in Natech events

Alessio Misuri et al.

Summary: This study developed a comprehensive methodology to quantitatively assess the risk caused by the escalation of Natech accidents, specifically addressing the effect of safety barrier performance modification induced by natural hazards. Barrier performance depletion was modeled through an innovative multi-level approach and introduced in the quantitative risk assessment procedure by a modified event tree analysis. A demonstrative application of the proposed methodology to a case study showed a significant increase in risk figures resulting from the degradation of safety barrier performance caused by natural events.

Natural hazard triggered technological risks in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, China

Yue Gao et al.

Summary: The Yangtze River Economic Belt is both an industrially intensive development area and a region frequently impacted by natural disasters. Research shows that Natech risks triggered by floods and typhoons are more severe in the eastern and central areas, while geological disaster risks are higher in the western part. Approximately 7.85% of the region is at relatively high-risk and above the Natech risk level, with these areas accounting for around 15.67% of the total population and 25.41% of the GDP of the YREB. The occurrence of Natech risks in these areas is predicted to cause serious harm to both people and the economy, providing a basis for Natech risk management in the YREB.
