Distribution of Ediacaran acanthomorphic acritarchs in the lower Doushantuo Formation of the Yangtze Gorges area, South China: Evolutionary and stratigraphic implications

Qing Ouyang et al.

Summary: Acanthomorphic acritarchs are crucial for understanding the biostratigraphy and evolutionary dynamics of marine eukaryotes post-global glaciation. This study identified 24 genera and 69 species from chert nodules in the lower part of the Doushantuo Formation in the Yangtze Gorges area, including new genera and species. Spatial variations in acritarch composition were observed, but stratigraphic similarities in acanthomorph range and abundance were also found, suggesting their potential for biostratigraphic subdivision and correlation.
