Novel photocatalytic performance of magnetically recoverable MnFe2O4/BiVO4 for polluted antibiotics degradation

Nguyen Thi Dieu Cam et al.

Summary: The decoration of MnFe2O4 on BiVO4 led to the formation of a Z scheme heterojunction, which prevented charge recombination and produced e(-) and h(+) under visible light. The active oxygen radicals generated effectively degraded tetracycline, and the heterojunction was stable and easily recoverable by an external magnet due to high magnetically activity of MnFe2O4.

Effect of freshly produced electric arc-furnace dust and chloride-free chemical accelerators on concrete performance

Galal Fares et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of chloride-free calcium-based chemical accelerators in ordinary concrete incorporating freshly homogenized electric arc-furnace dust (EAFD), and found that the presence of chemical accelerators significantly reduced the setting time of concrete, overcoming the negative impact of elevated zinc oxide content in EAFD. The optimal concrete mixture was identified to contain 4% CN and 4% EAFD, proving the effectiveness of the chemical accelerator-to-EAFD ratio in mitigating the delay in setting time.

Summary: The study focused on the effects of ytterbium doping on structural, electrical and magnetic properties of Mn-ferrites, demonstrating an increase in coercivity and a decrease in remanence and saturation magnetization. Ytterbium incorporation also led to a reduction in both real and imaginary parts of permittivity, while enhancing the impedance of the ferrite lattice. The results suggest that these compounds are suitable for microwave absorption applications.

Slag foaming estimation in the electric arc furnace using machine learning based long short-term memory networks

Kyungchan Son et al.

Summary: A soft sensor model was developed using machine learning techniques to correlate influential process variables with slag foaming height, showing good performance in predicting slag foaming in the EAF steelmaking process. The model was validated using actual steelmaking data, achieving satisfactory performance metrics for multiple steel grades. Sensitivity-based pruning revealed that electricity, carbon, and oxygen were the most influential variables for slag foaming height, potentially leading to enhanced optimization in terms of energy saving and cost-efficiency.

Summary: The study investigated magnesium-zinc ferrites as magnetic sorbents for environmental applications, determining ion distribution and magnetic parameters with low-temperature Mossbauer spectroscopy and VSM data. The adsorption of Cr(VI) and Ni(II) ions showed chemical nature according to Langmuir equation, with the best adsorption capacity found in certain samples. Increasing zinc content led to higher heavy metal removal percentage in mixed ferrite samples, showing promise for heavy metal adsorption.
