Acid-triggered, degradable and high strength-toughness copolyesters: Comprehensive experimental and theoretical study

Ying Tian et al.

Summary: The chemical structure, thermal properties, mechanical properties, viscoelastic behavior, and degradation of PBST copolymers modified by SPG diol were investigated. The introduction of SPG enhanced the toughness of the copolymers and provided acid-triggered degradation units. The degradation rate in response to acid stimuli could be adjusted by tailoring the SPG content.

Mechanical Recycling of Packaging Plastics: A Review

Zoe O. G. Schyns et al.

Summary: The current global plastics economy is linear, but transitioning to a circular economy is crucial for reducing environmental impacts through degradation, reuse, and recycling. Mechanical recycling plays a key role in a sustainable plastic economy, but challenges such as high costs, mechanical property degradation, and inconsistent product quality need to be addressed.

Marine microplastics as vectors of major ocean pollutants and its hazards to the marine ecosystem and humans

Tan Suet May Amelia et al.

Summary: Microplastic pollution has environmental and ecological impacts on plants, animals, and humans globally. It acts as a vector for pollutants, particularly in marine ecosystems, leading to bioaccumulation. Further research is needed to understand the potential effects on human health and factors influencing pollutant sorption and bioaccumulation by microplastic.

Poly(1,4-butylene-co-1,4-cyclohexanedimethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) copolyester: Potential bio-based engineering plastic

Ang Shen et al.

Summary: Poly(1,4-butylene-co-1,4-cyclohexanedimethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) (PBCFs) were synthesized from biobased 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM). The PBCFs demonstrated improved thermal and mechanical properties compared to PBF, making them suitable for bio-based engineering plastics or packaging materials with high transparency and good gas barrier properties.
