Eco-friendly flame retardant and dripping-resistant of polyester/cotton blend fabrics through layer-by-layer assembly fully bio-based chitosan/phytic acid coating

Yinchun Fang et al.

Summary: Polyester/cotton blend fabrics combine the comfort of cotton and the mechanical strength of polyester, but their high flammability poses potential fire hazards due to the wick effect. A bio-based intumescent flame retardant coating of chitosan/phytic acid was successfully applied to improve flame retardancy and eliminate dripping of the fabric. This research offers a new eco-friendly flame retardant strategy for polyester/cotton blend fabrics using a bio-based IFR system.

Green synthesis of titanium dioxide nanoparticles via bacterial cellulose (BC) produced from agricultural wastes

Sohair Farag et al.

Summary: Bacterial cellulose (BC) produced from Achrmobacter sp. M15 was used to reduce titanium tetra isopropoxide into titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO(2)NPs) via a green process. The TiO(2)NPs were characterized to have innovative properties when used in cellulose-based fabrics, demonstrating self-cleaning and superior antimicrobial activities. Results indicated that TiO(2)NPs prepared using BC had unique properties compared to those prepared by the sol-gel method.
