The composites exhibited excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) and reliable mechanical properties in harsh environments and low filling levels.

Summary: Researchers are focusing on improving the applicability of transition-metal carbon/nitride (MXene) shielding devices through integration with nanomaterials and polymers. By constructing an ultralight, conductive aerogel with strong interfacial interaction between MXene nanosheets and aramid nanofibers, the device shows excellent compressibility, superelasticity, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance. Additionally, the aerogel has consistent thermal stability and flame retardant properties, making it suitable for various extreme conditions.

In-plane compression response of woven CFRP composite after low-velocity impact: Modelling and experiment

Nickel-coated nylon sandwich film for combination of lightning strike protection and electromagnetic interference shielding of CFRP composite

Summary: This paper reports the development of a highly conductive and cost-effective nylon filter/nickel (NFNi) sandwiched film for lightning strike protection (LSP) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. Experimental results showed that the NFNi film significantly reduced damage to CFRP composites during lightning strike tests, maintained high residual strength, and exhibited superior EMI shielding performance compared to copper mesh and buckypaper. The sandwich structure of the film enhanced reflection loss of electromagnetic waves, contributing to its excellent performance.

The NiCF veil is a potential interleaf for structure-function integration and has the potential to suppress lightning damage to aerostructures.
