The influence of graphene on the mechanical, thermal, and flame retardant characteristics of Polyamide 6

Maziyar Sabet et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the addition of graphene can enhance the flame-retardant properties of polyamide 6 and improve the thermal stability of the material. The development and application of polymer/G compounds in engineering materials is feasible, with the types of compounds with nano-additives continually evolving.

Impact of graphene oxide on epoxy resin characteristics

Maziyar Sabet et al.

Summary: The addition of a small amount of graphene oxide (GO) to epoxy resin composites enhances fire resistance and reduces smoke production, primarily due to the formation of a physical barrier of GO char layers. The barrier impact of GO and the limited mobility of polymer chains are crucial factors in increasing thermal stability and reducing the generation of harmful gases.

The effect of graphene oxide on the mechanical, thermal characteristics and flame retardancy of polyurethane

Maziyar Sabet et al.

Summary: The presence of GO in PU helps to reduce the discharge of heat, smoke, CO, and CO2 into the atmosphere. Additionally, the inclusion of 2.0 wt-% of GO in the PU framework leads to significant improvements in mechanical properties. Moreover, the introduction of GO in PU/GO nanocomposites increases the primary temperature of thermal degradation and charred yield, enhancing thermal stability and fire protection.

Structure and mechanical properties of graphene oxide-reinforced polycarbonate

Luisiana Morales-Zamudio et al.

Summary: The addition of different graphene oxides to polycarbonate (PC) for reinforcement showed that unmodified graphene oxide significantly increased the impact strength and elongation of the material, while commercial graphene also demonstrated good dispersion. However, chemically modified graphene oxide did not improve the impact resistance of the material.

Understanding the mechanical and viscoelastic properties of graphene reinforced polycarbonate nanocomposites using coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: Incorporating graphene nanosheets into a polymer matrix shows promise in utilizing graphene's remarkable properties, but the mechanisms near the graphene-polymer interface are still poorly understood. This study investigates nanoscale mechanisms in graphene-reinforced polycarbonate nanocomposites through molecular dynamics simulations, finding lower mobility of polymer chains near the interface and increased modulus and strength due to graphene embedding. The study contributes to understanding failure mechanisms and structure-property relationships in graphene-reinforced polymer nanocomposites.

Effects of carbon nanotubes and graphene on the structure and properties of natural rubber

Jinyong Sui et al.

Summary: NR/CNTs/rGO nanocomposites were prepared by adding carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) at a 1:1 ratio. The addition of CNTs and graphene improved the aging resistance, mechanical properties, and solvent resistance of natural rubber (NR) composites. The best properties were achieved with a CNTs/rGO content of 2 phr, as indicated by TEM, vulcanization properties, abrasion and solvent resistance, mechanical properties, dynamic mechanical properties (DMA), and thermal properties (TGA) evaluations.
