Energy intake during hospital stay predicts all-cause mortality after discharge independently of nutritional status in elderly heart failure patients

Satoshi Katano et al.

Summary: This study found that low daily energy intake was independently associated with higher mortality in elderly HF patients, and inclusion of energy intake in addition to established predictors improved mortality risk stratification. Patients who consumed 31.5 kcal/kg/day of energy had the lowest risk of all-cause mortality.

The regulatory approval of anamorelin for treatment of cachexia in patients with non-small cell lung cancer, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, and colorectal cancer in Japan: facts and numbers.

Hidetaka Wakabayashi et al.

Summary: Anamorelin, a ghrelin receptor agonist that can be taken orally, has been approved for the treatment of cancer cachexia in Japan. Clinical studies have shown that anamorelin can significantly increase lean body mass in patients with cancer, which is important for diagnosing sarcopenia and cachexia in Asia. The approval of anamorelin is expected to change clinical practice in Japan and potentially other countries in the future.

Summary: The study found that more than half of heart failure patients had reduced muscle mass, and lower values of both muscle and fat mass were associated with higher mortality in heart failure.
