Neuroprotective effect of cajaninstilbene acid against cerebral ischemia and reperfusion damages by activating AMPK/Nrf2 pathway

Hui Xu et al.

Summary: This study identified cajaninstilbene acid (CSA) as a potential neuroprotective agent against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (IR) damages, exerting its protective effects through activating the AMPK/Nrf2 pathway to reduce oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. CSA may serve as a promising drug candidate for the treatment of ischemic stroke.

Transcriptome analysis reveals abscisic acid enhancing drought resistance by regulating genes related to flavonoid metabolism in pigeon pea

Wanlong Yang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that ABA can enhance drought resistance in pigeon pea by regulating the accumulation of flavonoids through secondary metabolism. ABA treatment led to significant changes in flavonoid biosynthesis pathways, with key enzyme genes being up-regulated. Transcriptome analysis revealed potential involvement of multiple transcription factors in the regulation of flavonoid accumulation, and RT-PCR confirmed their regulation by ABA. High Performance Liquid Chromatography analysis showed increased content of genistein, genistin and pterostilbene in pigeon pea treated with ABA under drought stress.

Modulatory effect of pigeon pea-wheat biscuits on lipid profile, lipid peroxidation level, α-glucosidase, and butyrylcholinesterase activities in type-2 diabetic patients

F. J. Gbenga-Fabusiwa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of pigeon pea-wheat biscuits on lipid profile, lipid peroxidation level, alpha-glucosidase, and butyrylcholinesterase activities in type-2 diabetic patients. The results showed that the biscuits had a positive impact on the serum lipid profile by reducing total cholesterol and LDL-C while increasing HDL-C levels. The 100-PP biscuit demonstrated outstanding antihyperlipidemic potential and improvement in liver function, suggesting it could help prevent heart diseases in diabetic patients.

Genome-wide analysis and characterization of R2R3-MYB family in pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) and their functional identification in phenylpropanoids biosynthesis

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: This study identified 30 CpMYB genes involved in flavonoid and lignin biosynthesis in the pigeon pea genome, and classified them into five groups based on phylogenetic analysis. Additionally, 122 key enzyme genes related to flavonoid and lignin biosynthetic pathways were identified and mapped on 11 chromosomes. Expression profiles showed most genes were expressed in different tissues and responded significantly to MeJA, indicating their potential regulatory roles in flavonoid and lignin biosynthesis. Furthermore, the study proposed a discussion model for the regulatory networks involved in these biosynthetic pathways.

Expression analysis of genes for cytochrome P450 CYP86 and glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase related to suberin biosynthesis in rice roots under stagnant deoxygenated conditions

Shunsaku Nishiuchi et al.

Summary: The radial oxygen loss (ROL) barrier on the outer cell layers of rice roots helps efficient oxygen transfer, with genes CYP86 and GPAT identified as potentially involved in suberin biosynthesis. Under deoxygenated conditions, these genes were induced and showed spatiotemporal expression patterns near the root apex. This suggests that the selected genes are important for suberin biosynthesis in the root exodermis and may be controlled by spatiotemporal expression.

Two bi-functional cytochrome P450 CYP72 enzymes from olive (Olea europaea) catalyze the oxidative C-C bond cleavage in the biosynthesis of secoxy-iridoids - flavor and quality determinants in olive oil

Carlos E. Rodriguez-Lopez et al.

Summary: The discovery of new bifunctional enzymes influencing olive oil quality sheds light on the biosynthetic pathway of olive oil. Experimental evidence revealed the key role of these enzymes in product specificity, uncovering a new mechanism for seco-iridoid production in plants. Furthermore, the study identified a genetic link between cultivated and wild olives.
