Summary: Ficus altissima Blume, a horticultural plant in tropical regions, produces natural rubber with comparable molecular weight to Hevea brasiliensis rubber. The latex of F. altissima has an acidic pH and the rubber particle size distribution is unimodal with the most abundant protein being acid phosphatase. LC-MS was used to identify proteins in the rubber particles and serum, revealing pharmaceutical proteins and enzymes related to the biosynthesis of natural medicines.

Polyploidy: an evolutionary and ecological force in stressful times
