LEAFY is a pioneer transcription factor and licenses cell reprogramming to floral fate

Run Jin et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the plant pioneer transcription factor LFY promotes floral cell fate by locally unlocking chromatin through displacing histone H1 and recruiting SWI/SNF chromatin remodelers, providing biochemical evidence for a pioneer factor in plants and showing similarities with animal pioneer transcription factors.

The LEAFY floral regulator displays pioneer transcription factor properties

Xuelei Lai et al.

Summary: As a pioneer transcription factor, LFY has the ability to bind both methylated and non-methylated DNA, modify chromatin state to initiate gene expression, and induce chromatin accessibility in target genes APETALA1 and AGAMOUS in plant seedling tissues. This study suggests that LFY possesses key pioneer TF features contributing to launching the floral gene expression program.
