Water and Light-Use Efficiency Are Enhanced Under Summer Coastal Fog in a California Agricultural System

Sara A. Baguskas et al.

Summary: The study in the fog-belt of the Salinas Valley, California, analyzed the effects of coastal fog on a strawberry farm and found that water-use and light-use efficiency increased significantly during foggy conditions, leading to enhanced photosynthetic output of whole-plants. The findings suggest that irrigation for these fields could be rescheduled during foggy periods without sacrificing plant productivity.
