Low-Speed Turbofan Aerodynamic and Acoustic Prediction with an Isothermal Lattice Boltzmann Method

Majd Daroukh et al.

Summary: The objective of this paper is to assess the capability of the isothermal lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) in capturing aerodynamic and acoustic features of low-speed turbofans. The results show that the LBM method successfully captures the overall trends in aerodynamic variables, but there are quantitative discrepancies that lead to lower fan performance values in simulations. Uncertainties in the absolute values of some variables in experimental data are also identified. In terms of acoustic results, the LBM method agrees well with measurements in terms of broadband noise, but tends to overestimate low frequencies. Predictions based on a hybrid method also show good agreement, indicating the correct propagation of acoustic waves by the solver.

Heat transfer and flow velocity study of a row of jets emerging from a perforated pipe at a low Reynolds number

Yassine Ahmimache et al.

Summary: Experimental investigations were conducted on circular low Reynolds number jets emerging from a perforated pipe, showing a reduced cross-sectional area with crescent shape and comparatively lower heat transfer rates. Heat transfer was primarily dependent on injection Reynolds number, injection-to-plate distance, and center-to-center spacing.

Lattice Boltzmann method for computational aeroacoustics on non-uniform meshes: A direct grid coupling approach

Thomas Astoul et al.

Summary: The study introduces an accurate lattice Boltzmann direct coupling algorithm, suitable for industrial and aeroacoustic applications, by providing a direct connection between fine and coarse grids to reduce spurious noise at grid interfaces. The proposed algorithm significantly improves accuracy and efficiency by avoiding duplication of points and enhancing the link between different grid resolutions.

Large-eddy-simulation-based analysis of Reynolds-stress budgets for a round impinging jet

A. Colombie et al.

Summary: This study uses large-eddy simulation to evaluate the Reynolds-stress budgets of a round impinging jet, focusing on the stagnation region where pressure terms dominate the budgets and balance the Reynolds-stress production and convective fluxes. The study highlights the role of pressure diffusion term in conveying energy to the wall and explains the failure of turbulence models due to inadequate modeling of this term.

Improved compressible hybrid lattice Boltzmann method on standard lattice for subsonic and supersonic flows

Florian Renard et al.

Summary: A new D2Q9 Hybrid Lattice Boltzmann Method (HLBM) was proposed for simulating compressible subsonic and supersonic flows, which has been proven to be efficient, accurate, and robust in various test cases. This hybrid method combines LBM algorithm to solve mass and momentum equations, and finite volume method to solve entropy-based energy equation with ideal gas equation of state, valid from subsonic to supersonic regimes.

A unified hybrid lattice-Boltzmann method for compressible flows: Bridging between pressure-based and density-based methods

G. Farag et al.

Summary: A unified expression for high-speed compressible segregated consistent lattice Boltzmann methods is provided, showing theoretical equivalence between different approaches in the absence of forcing terms. It is highlighted that the difference with classical density-based methods lies in the addition of a fourth-order term in the equilibrium function, and forcing terms can be generalized for balancing numerical errors.
