Wall Pressure Fluctuations Beneath Hypersonic Boundary Layer over Plate

XiaoJian Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the characteristics of wall pressure fluctuations generated by different flow types in a hypersonic wind tunnel. Two typical disturbances are found, depending on the flow type and reaching peak values during the transition period. A method to identify acoustic modes and convective modes is proposed, followed by error analysis.

Flow transition to turbulence and induced acoustics at Mach 6

Dimitris Drikakis et al.

Summary: Through comparing the results of implicit large eddy simulation (iLES) and direct numerical simulation (DNS) for flow and acoustics in transitional and turbulent boundary layer over a flat plate, it is found that iLES can capture flow and acoustic characteristics in the turbulent region accurately, but with differences up to 5dB compared to DNS in the transition region. Additionally, iLES slightly shifts the end of the transition further downstream and underestimates the shear stress value peak.

Pressure gradient effects on the secondary instability of Mack mode disturbances in hypersonic boundary layers

Jianxin Liu et al.

Summary: Research suggests that the pressure gradient has a significant impact on the secondary instability of Mack mode disturbances, primarily by affecting the primary amplitude of the Mack modes. This leads to an increase in both primary and secondary instability growth rates, advancing the transition process.
