Muscle Activation Differences During Eccentric Hamstring Exercises

Sonay Guruhan et al.

Summary: This study suggests that the Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) may be the most effective exercise for hamstring muscles in healthy individuals, leading to higher muscle activation than other exercises. On the other hand, stiff-leg deadlift (SLDL), unilateral stiff-leg deadlift (USLDL), and ball leg curl (BLC) exercises may be preferred at the beginning of strength training programs due to their lower muscular activation compared to the NHE.

The Effect of Exercise Compliance on Risk Reduction for Hamstring Strain Injury: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses

Nicholas Joel Ripley et al.

Summary: Eccentric strength training can reduce the risk of hamstring strain injuries, with high compliance and consistency showing greater effectiveness. Eccentric interventions were found to be superiorly effective in preventing HSI, emphasizing the importance of achieving high levels of compliance and consistency in training interventions.

The effects of the Nordic hamstring exercise on sprint performance and eccentric knee flexor strength: A systematic review and meta-analysis of intervention studies among team sport players

Iker J. Bautista et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the Nordic hamstring exercise has a positive impact on sprint performance among team sport players and also significantly benefits the eccentric strength of knee flexors, especially for relatively untrained individuals. However, for well-trained players, a higher training intensity may be needed to induce adaptations.
