Triassic turtles from Pangea: The legacy from South America

Marcelo S. de la Fuente et al.

Summary: The Triassic period is crucial for turtle evolution due to the oldest turtle fossils and tracks being found from this time. The records from Northern and Southern Pangea provide valuable information on the early stages of turtle evolution. New discoveries in South America and Europe, as well as discussions on the turtle shell's origin, offer fresh perspectives on the subject.

Neonate aggregation in the Permian dicynodont Diictodon (Therapsida, Anomodontia): Evidence for a reproductive function for burrows?

Roger M. H. Smith et al.

Summary: New fossil evidence supports the theory that helical burrow casts containing skeletons of Diictodon feliceps may have been used for oviposition/parturition and shelter for infants. The discovery of behaviorally-associated neonate and adult Diictodon within these structures suggests that the terminal portions of underground burrows were facultatively used as brood chambers. Further studies indicate that Diictodon primarily dug underground for thermo-regulation.
