The Prevalence and Potential Role of Pain Beliefs When Managing Later-Life Pain

Summary: The study examined the beliefs and willingness to undergo treatment in 154 community-dwelling older adults with chronic noncancer pain. Positive beliefs about physical treatments, such as exercise, were highly endorsed, while negative beliefs about pain medication decreased willingness to take medication. Fatalistic attitudes were associated with decreased willingness to undergo physical treatments.
