I. Indices of Pain Intensity Derived From Ecological Momentary Assessments: Rationale and Stakeholder Preferences

Arthur A. Stone et al.

Summary: Pain assessment is essential for chronic pain research and management, and considering additional outcome measures capturing temporal aspects of pain can enhance pain assessment. Different stakeholders have distinct preferences for additional pain indices, with patients favoring Worst Pain and Time in High Pain. Multiple temporal aspects of pain intensity are important to stakeholders and should be considered in evaluating the efficacy of pain management.

Classification algorithm for the International Classification of Diseases-11 chronic pain classification: development and results from a preliminary pilot evaluation

Beatrice Korwisi et al.

Summary: The ICD-11 chronic pain classification consists of about 100 diagnoses with specific diagnostic criteria, and the CAL-CP aims to guide users through these criteria with a decision tree. Initial pilot evaluation shows good clinical utility of the algorithm in structuring a reliable way to diagnose chronic pain. Further studies are needed to evaluate its utility and impact on diagnosis accuracy.
