Regio- and Diastereoselective [3+2] Annulation of Aliphatic Aldimines with Alkenes by Scandium-Catalyzed β-C(sp3)-H Activation

Xuefeng Cong et al.

Summary: This study presents the regio- and diastereoselective [3+2] annulation of aliphatic aldimines with alkenes using half-sandwich scandium catalysts, providing a new family of multi-substituted aminocyclopentane derivatives. Styrenes reacted exclusively to afford 5-aryl-trans-substituted 1-aminocyclopentane derivatives with excellent diastereoselectivity, while aliphatic alkenes selectively gave 4-alkyl-trans-substituted 1-aminocyclopentane products. The addition of a catalytic amount of appropriate amines significantly influenced catalyst activity and stereoselectivity.

Modular Access to Spiro-dihydroquinolines via Scandium-Catalyzed Dearomative Annulation of Quinolines with Alkynes

Shao-Jie Lou et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new synthetic method for the construction of spiro-dihydroquinoline derivatives containing a quaternary carbon stereocenter with an unprotected N-H group, by catalytically dearomatizing quinolines with alkynes using scandium. The reaction proceeds through C-H activation of the 2-aryl substituent in quinoline, followed by alkyne insertion and dearomative 1,2-addition, providing efficient access to spiro molecular architectures.

Enantioselective C-H Alkenylation of Ferrocenes with Alkynes by Half-Sandwich Scandium Catalyst

Shao-Jie Lou et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the highly enantioselective C-H alkenylation of quinoline- and pyridine-substituted ferrocenes with alkynes using a half-sandwich scandium catalyst. This method offers broad substrate scope, high enantioselectivity, and selectively affords a new family of planar-chiral ferrocenes bearing N/alkene functionalities. The use of a quinoline/alkene-functionalized ferrocene product as a chiral ligand for asymmetric catalysis is also showcased.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Redox-Neutral Olefination of Aryldiazenes with Acrylate Esters via C-H Activation and Transfer Hydrogenation

Xiaofei Zhang et al.

Summary: The Rh(III)-catalyzed redox-neutral C-H olefination of aryldiazenecarboxylates using arylate esters as olefinating reagents has been successfully achieved. This reaction occurs under mild and redox-neutral conditions, integrating C-H activation and transfer hydrogenation. The chemoselectivity of this reaction complements previously reported rhodium-catalyzed coupling of the same substrates.

Synthesis of Tetrahydroquinolines by Scandium-Catalyzed [3+3] Annulation of Anilines with Allenes and Dienes

Xian Xu et al.

Summary: A redox-neutral C-H/N-H annulation of anilines with allenes and dienes was achieved using a scandium catalyst with a simple beta-diketiminato ligand. The reaction selectively produced a family of tetrahydroquinolines in high isolated yields, with both allene and diene coupling partners serving as three-carbon building blocks. Mechanistic investigations suggested a reaction pathway involving N-H allylation, Hofmann-Martius rearrangement, and hydroamination cyclization.

Recent development in transition metal-catalysed C-H olefination

Wajid Ali et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed functionalizations of inert C-H bonds to construct C-C bonds are an ideal route for synthesizing valuable organic molecules. Fine tuning of directing groups, catalysts, and ligands plays a crucial role in selective C-H bond activation. Recent developments in this area have ensured a high level of regioselectivity in C-H olefination reactions.
