Highly Birefringent Anti-Resonant Hollow-Core Fiber with a Bi-Thickness Fourfold Semi-Tube Structure

Yi-feng Hong et al.

Summary: The optical performance of anti-resonant hollow-core fibers (AR-HCFs or ARFs) is improving rapidly, but polarization maintaining remains an issue. In this work, a novel ARF structure with bi-thickness semi-tube design and fourfold rotational symmetry is fabricated, achieving a birefringence level close to 10(-4). The proposed ARF demonstrates excellent polarization characteristics, low loss, wide bandwidth, and single-mode operation, making it suitable for polarization-related optical fiber applications.

Backscattering in antiresonant hollow-core fibers: over 40 dB lower than in standard optical fibers

V Michaud-Belleau et al.

Summary: The elastic backscattering of light in optical fibers is a fundamental phenomenon that affects the performance of fiber systems. This study presents the first measurement of backscattering from a low-loss antiresonant hollow-core fiber, which shows significantly lower values compared to traditional silica-core fiber and hollow-core photonic bandgap fiber. The record-low level of backscattering measured in this study demonstrates the potential for detailed characterization and fault localization in hollow-core fibers with a tailored instrument.

Low-energy-threshold deep-ultraviolet generation in a small-mode-area hollow-core fiber

Daiqi Xiong et al.

Summary: Wavelength-tunable deep-ultraviolet pulses are generated in a small-mode-area hollow-core fiber fabricated by tapering a nodeless tubular-type hollow-core fiber, reducing the pump energy requirement for inducing sufficient nonlinear effects. The onset of ultraviolet light is reported with a low pump pulse energy of 125 nJ, with frequency conversion arising due to soliton phase matching, preserving shot-to-shot coherence. This provides a promising platform for a compact ultraviolet frequency comb source.

Understanding bending-induced loss and bending-enhanced higher-order mode suppression in negative curvature fibers

Yuxi Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a numerical analysis on bending-induced loss and bending-enhanced higher-order mode suppression in negative curvature fibers, exploring the mechanisms and parameter spaces that affect bending properties and providing design guidelines. Mechanical bending can significantly increase higher-order mode suppression in the fiber.
