Semi-analytical vibrational analysis of functionally graded carbon nanotubes coupled conical-conical shells

M. Rezaiee-Pajand et al.

Summary: This article predicts the vibrational behavior of composite coupled conical-conical shell structures with Carbon NanoTube (CNT) fibers of Functionally Graded distributions. By utilizing Donnell's theory, Hamilton method, and five-parameter shell theory, the governing equations of motion are obtained and solved using an efficient Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM). The accuracy of the proposed formulation is verified through well-known benchmarks, numerical examples, and parametric studies, demonstrating high accuracy in analyzing the behavior of coupled shells.

Natural frequency responses of hybrid polymer/carbon fiber/FG-GNP nanocomposites paraboloidal and hyperboloidal shells based on multiscale approaches

Emad Sobhani et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the vibrational behavior of doubly curved shells with paraboloidal and hyperboloidal geometries using an efficient semi-analytical solution method. It utilizes a new hybrid three phases nanocomposite material for the shell structure and employs various multiscale approaches for homogenization. The governing equations of motions are obtained using Hamilton's principles and Green-Gauss theory, and solved using the Generalized Differential Quadrature Method. The results demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the solution method in obtaining the natural frequency of doubly curved shells.

Performance characteristics of a conical pile head breakwater: An experimental study

Arunakumar Hunasanahally Sathyanarayana et al.

Summary: This study modified conventional pile breakwater by widening the pile's cross-sectional area at the surface level in a conical shape to improve wave energy absorption. Experimental results demonstrated that the introduction of pile head on conventional pile breakwater is beneficial in improving wave attenuation and the overall performance of the CPHB as a coastal protection structure is promising. Empirical equations were developed for quick prediction of transmission and reflection coefficients with high accuracy.

Chunyu Zhang et al.

Summary: The dynamic stiffness method (DSM) is proposed to investigate the vibration characteristics of coupled conical-ribbed cylindrical-conical shell structures. The method divides the structure into components and formulates a dynamic stiffness matrix based on the relationships between displacements and forces. Experimental validation and numerical examples demonstrate the accuracy and stability of the method, providing insights into the effects of geometric parameters on dynamic behaviors.
