Western North Pacific Tropical Cyclone Database Created by the China Meteorological Administration

Xiaoqin Lu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the access to and characteristics of the tropical cyclone (TC) database maintained and actively developed by the China Meteorological Administration, which records data on all TCs passing through the western North Pacific and South China Sea since 1949. With continuous TC monitoring and multi-source data collection, the database now comprises a wide range of information related to TCs, supporting ongoing research into TC climatic activity and forecasting.

A beta-advection typhoon track model and its application for typhoon hazard assessment

Xu Hong et al.

Summary: The article introduces a beta-advection model to simulate typhoon tracks in the Western North Pacific, driven by steering flow and beta drift. The weights for large scale flows in different squares are estimated from the 20th Century Reanalysis dataset. The model's adequacy is validated through comparison with best-track data on typhoon translation velocity.

Dynamic reliability analysis of a fl oating offshore wind turbine under wind-wave joint excitations via probability density evolution method

Yupeng Song et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the short-term dynamic reliability of a spar-type FOWT using the probability density evolution method (PDEM). A coupled dynamics model for the FOWT was established and the conditional joint probability distribution of significant wave height and peak spectral wave period at the cut-out wind speed was constructed. The stochastic dynamic response and reliability of the FOWT were analyzed using PDEM, showing that the reliability for normal operation is less than 0.2 when the acceleration at the tower top is used as the failure criterion.
