Graph model under grey and unknown preferences for resolving conflicts on discharging Fukushima nuclear wastewater into the ocean

Benshuo Yang et al.

Summary: Ten years after the Fukushima nuclear accident, the Japanese government's decision to discharge nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean has faced strong opposition from both Japanese citizens and neighboring countries, due to the potential harm to marine ecology caused by radioactive substances in the wastewater. To address this conflict, a novel grey and unknown preference framework was proposed to consider different equilibrium results and promote effective conflict resolution through consultation and cooperation.

Lessons learned from Chernobyl and Fukushima on thyroid cancer screening and recommendations in case of a future nuclear accident

Enora Clero et al.

Summary: Exposure of the thyroid gland to ionizing radiation at a young age is the main recognized risk factor for differentiated thyroid cancer. Cancer screening aims to reduce morbidity and mortality, but can also have negative effects, thus requiring a proper evaluation of the benefits and risks of screening.

Evolutionary game of inland shipping pollution control under government co-supervision

Lang Xu et al.

Summary: This study discusses the evolutionary stable strategies in the context of environmental governance in inland shipping, and how to promote the development of the electric ship industry and the benign development of the inland river environmental governance system. The results show that the improvement of the initial probability and risk preference of the upstream and downstream governments and shipping companies is crucial.

A tripartite evolutionary game analysis of Japan's nuclear wastewater discharge

Jiaguo Liu et al.

Summary: This study establishes an evolutionary game model to explore the evolutionary stable strategies of Japan, other countries, and international environmental protection organization in the context of nuclear wastewater discharge. Critical factors influencing evolutionary results and trajectories are identified, and policy implications are suggested to promote Japan's non-discharge strategy to protect the marine environment and human health.

Game analysis of nuclear wastewater discharge under different attitudes: Seeking a potential equilibrium solution

Jiaguo Liu et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively analyzes the equilibrium strategies of the discharge country and interest-related countries under different situations using static game, RDEU game, and sequential game. It suggests that when interest-related countries make decisions first, the discharge behavior of the discharge country should be restricted from the perspective of internal and external benefits.

Change in sense of food safety associated with social connectedness and information sources-A 10-year longitudinal survey before and after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident

Y. Kuroda et al.

Summary: This study examines the change in food safety perceptions over time following the Fukushima accident in 2011, finding that social connectedness is positively associated with food safety sense, while information from newspapers, TV, and word of mouth is negatively associated. Food safety perceptions significantly declined in Hamadori and Nakadori regions but started to improve 3 years after the earthquake and returned to pre-earthquake levels by 2018.

Development of a dynamic food chain model for assessment of the radiological impact from radioactive releases to the aquatic environment

G. de With et al.

Summary: The software tool POSEIDON-R was developed to model the concentration of radionuclides in water and sediments, as well as their uptake and fate in marine organisms. It has been actively improved post-Fukushima Dai-ichi accident, focusing on the development of a food chain model and its extension to key artificial radionuclides such as 3H. Simulation results compared with measurements show good consistency, with challenges in validating predictions for 3H, 90Sr, and 131I due to data limitations. The results suggest that dose rates from radioactive isotopes such as 137Cs and 134Cs decline post-accident, alleviating concerns for potential deleterious effects on marine biota.

Transport and dispersion of tritium from the radioactive water of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant

Chang Zhao et al.

Summary: Japan plans to release over 1.2 million tons of radioactive water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean, posing a threat to marine ecosystems and human health. Studies show that in short-term release scenarios, the peak plume with high tritium concentration can reach the northeastern Pacific, while in long-term release scenarios, the contaminated water plume is confined to coastal regions east of Japan.

137Cs ocean distribution and fate at East Mediterranean Sea in case of a nuclear accident in Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant

Christos Tsabaris et al.

Summary: A 3-D hydrodynamic model was used to simulate the dispersion of 137Cs activity concentration in case of a nuclear accident at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in the East Mediterranean Sea, showing a westward direction of dispersion influenced by regional ocean currents. The simulated plume gradually spread to areas like the Eastern Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea, appearing significantly diluted by the end of the annual simulation.

Summary: This study explores the renegotiation behavior of concessionaires in PPP sewage treatment projects, analyzing the best strategic choices and renegotiation thresholds under different circumstances through an evolutionary game model. It discusses the impact of fluctuating construction costs and provides insights on regulating PPP renegotiation behavior to reduce its incidence during the construction stage.
