Low density lipoprotein cholesterol is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease in participants over 70 years old: A prospective cohort study

Xin Su et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in a contemporary population aged over 70 years in China. The results showed that elevated LDL-C levels increased the risk of CVD in participants over 70 years old, and a lower level of LDL-C did not increase CVD risk in the left side of the U-shaped curve.

Lower handgrip strength levels probably precede triglyceride glucose index and associated with diabetes in men not in women

Jia Zheng et al.

Summary: The study found an inverse relationship between handgrip strength per weight (HGS/W), triglyceride glucose index (TyG), and diabetes in the Chinese elderly population. Lower HGS/W levels preceded TyG levels, but the effect was inconsistent between men and women. Further clarification of the possible mechanisms is needed.

Kidney Function as Risk Factor and Predictor of Cardiovascular Outcomes and mortality Among Older Adults

Andreas Kuehn et al.

Summary: In older adults, eGFR between 45 and 59 mL/min/1.73 m(2) without albuminuria was associated with stroke but not with MI or all-cause mortality. In contrast, UACR between 30 and 300 mg/g was associated with MI and all-cause mortality but not with stroke. Furthermore, cystatin C-based eGFR improved risk prediction for stroke in this cohort of older adults.

Summary: In a study using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, it was found that a lower eGFR based on creatinine and cystatin C combination, but not alone, was significantly associated with an increased risk of new-onset diabetes in Chinese adults.

Association of Depressive Symptoms with Rapid Kidney Function Decline in Adults with Normal Kidney Function

Summary: The study found that high depressive symptoms were significantly associated with a higher risk of rapid kidney function decline among Chinese adults with normal kidney function. An increase in depressive symptoms was correlated with an increased risk of rapid decline in kidney function.

Sex-specific association of BMI change with stroke in middle-aged and older adults with type 2 diabetes

Cancan Cui et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between BMI change and stroke in middle-aged and older adults with type 2 diabetes and identify sex differences. The results showed that an increase in BMI was independently associated with a higher risk of stroke in men, while this association was not significant in women. Additionally, a positive dose-response relationship between BMI increase and stroke was observed only in men.

Waist-to-height ratio, waist circumference, body mass index, waist A national longitudinal cohort study

Yanqiang Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist circumference (WC), waist divided by height0.5 (WHT.5R) and body mass index (BMI) are independent predictors of cardiometabolic multimorbidity in the middle-aged and older Chinese population. Furthermore, WHtR, WC, and WHT.5R exhibit better predictive abilities for cardiometabolic multimorbidity compared to BMI.
