Robust multi-steps input command for liquid sloshing control

Abdullah Alshaya et al.

Summary: A robust input command based on multiple steps is proposed to eliminate residual vibrations in a multimode linear system, effectively suppressing sloshing oscillations in a water-filled container. The command duration can be adjusted to achieve a balance between reducing transient vibrations, enhancing command robustness, and increasing total maneuver time. The study investigates the command's performance in relation to system parameters and its robustness against uncertainties.

Robust motion trajectory optimization of overhead cranes based on polynomial chaos expansion

Haijun Peng et al.

Summary: This paper presents a polynomial chaos-based framework for trajectory optimization of an overhead crane system under uncertainty. It constructs a deterministic trajectory optimization problem formulation for a two-dimensional overhead crane model, then proposes a robust trajectory optimization problem formulation to efficiently solve the uncertainty trajectory optimization problem. By using polynomial chaos expansion to quantify stochastic functions, an augmented deterministic trajectory optimization problem is obtained. This method is demonstrated to be feasible and effective through comparison with traditional sampling-based Monte Carlo simulations.

Two-scale command shaping for arresting motion in nonlinear systems

Alexander Alyukov et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a feedforward technique based on two-scale command shaping for controlling motion in nonlinear systems, showing advantages in its nature and ease of implementation. By decomposing the control input into two scales, the method effectively controls system motion and eliminates the influence of nonlinear factors. Experimental results demonstrate close agreement with theoretical predictions in controlling a compound pendulum attached to a servomotor.

An energy-time optimal autonomous motion control framework for overhead cranes in the presence of obstacles

Xinwei Wang et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the autonomous motion control of 3-D underactuated overhead cranes in the presence of obstacles, and develops an offline motion planning+online trajectory tracking framework. The transfer mission is formulated as an energy-time hybrid optimal control problem to balance transfer time and energy consumption. A simple collision-avoidance condition is derived, and an iterative procedure based on the secant method determines optimal terminal time for fast and robust calculations. Finally, a model predictive controller with a piecewise weighted matrix is designed for high-precision trajectory tracking and fast residual sway suppression. The numerical simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the discussed framework.

A smooth polynomial shaped command for sloshing suppression of a suspended liquid container

Abdullah Alshaya et al.

Summary: The study proposes a smooth polynomial shaped command with adjustable command time length for eliminating residual vibrations in a multi-mode system. Numerical simulation tests show the effectiveness of the command in eliminating sloshing oscillations of a liquid-filled container in a rest-to-rest manoeuvre, demonstrating its ability to eliminate jerks and vibrational modes. The study also investigates the robustness of the command to system parameters and its capability to adjust command length.

Neural Observer and Adaptive Fractional-Order Backstepping Fast-Terminal Sliding-Mode Control of RTG Cranes

Le Anh Tuan

Summary: This article presents a control system for rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes using three actuators to track three actuated outputs and stabilize two unactuated outputs. Advanced techniques such as fast-terminal sliding mode, fractional calculus, backstepping, and neural networks are incorporated to endow the control system with adaptive and robust features. Simulation and experimentation are conducted to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the control system.

Robust observer-based anti-swing control of 2D-crane systems with load hoisting-lowering

Roger Miranda-Colorado

Summary: A new model-free robust control scheme is proposed for reducing the payload swing angle of two-dimensional crane systems with varying rope length. The controller includes a coupling function and disturbance observer to attenuate swing angle magnitude and minimize the effects of disturbances, allowing the system to track desired motion and hoist/load with minimal oscillations. Comparative numerical simulations show that the new controller outperforms existing control techniques in the presence of internal and external disturbances.

Summary: This article introduces an augmented adaptive unscented Kalman filter designed to estimate both the diagonal process noise covariance matrix and unknown inputs simultaneously. A selective scaling method is also introduced to improve the convergence property of the filter. The development of the novel KF is motivated by a specific estimation problem related to crane systems.
