Nonlinear computational models of dynamical coding patterns in depression and normal rats: from electrophysiology to energy consumption

Yuanxi Li et al.

Summary: Investigating the pathogenesis and firing patterns of neurons in major depressive disorder (MDD) has implications for clinical treatment and understanding other neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. Simulation and energy analysis revealed that abnormal firing patterns of neurons contribute to the abnormal behaviors in MDD.

Phase synchronization and energy balance between neurons

Ying Xie et al.

Summary: A functional neuron has been developed by incorporating a phototube and a thermistor in a neural circuit. The firing mode of this neuron is controlled synchronously by external temperature and illumination, and there is energy diversity when exposed to different conditions. Two criteria are proposed to discuss the enhancement of synapse connections to neurons, emphasizing the importance of energy balance and synchronization between neurons. These findings provide guidance for the design and training of intelligent neural networks.

Memristive neuron model with an adapting synapse and its hardware experiments

BoCheng Bao et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the use of memristors to mimic the electromagnetic induction effect caused by neuron potential. A flux-controlled memristor is considered to imitate the feedback synapse effect, and a memristive neuron model with adapting synapse is presented. The model is three-dimensional and non-autonomous with time-varying equilibria, resulting in multiple stabilities and the coexistence of multiple firing patterns. Hardware experiments show diverse coexisting firing patterns and confirm the accuracy of the numerical simulations.

The impact of memristive coupling initial states on travelling waves in an ensemble of the FitzHugh-Nagumo oscillators

I. A. Korneev et al.

Summary: The study explored the impact of memristive element initial states on the travelling wave characteristics of a ring of FitzHugh-Nagumo oscillators, particularly in the excitable regime. It demonstrated that the dependence of the oscillation characteristics on the memristor initial states persists even in the presence of weak memristor imperfectness.
