Microstructural Interpretation of Influences of Molecular Weight on the Tensile Properties of High-Density Polyethylene Solids Using Rheo-Raman Spectroscopy

Summary: The influence of weight-average molecular weight on the structure-properties relationship in high-density polyethylenes (HDPEs) was studied, showing an increase in lamellar crystalline layer thickness with increasing Mw. While the amorphous characteristics remained unchanged, the orientation parameter exhibited power law behavior with Mw in the strain-hardening region.
