Animal Models and Alternatives in Vaginal Research: a Comparative Review

Summary: Progress in gynecologic health research is ongoing, but few groups focus specifically on vaginal tissue research. There is currently no standardized animal or tissue model that fully replicates the complexity of the human vagina. Researchers must compromise specific properties of the vaginal environment to fit their scientific questions.
