The number of neurons in Drosophila and mosquito brains

Joshua I. Raji et al.

Summary: The study determined the total number of neurons in the brains of fruit flies and mosquitoes, finding that neurons make up around 89% of the total cell population in each insect brain. No obvious sexual dimorphism was identified in the neuronal and non-neuronal cell population of these insects.

The Form and Function of PIEZO2

Marcin Szczot et al.

Summary: Mechanosensation is crucial for detecting dynamic mechanical stimuli such as pressure, stretch, and shear stress, with a breakthrough in 2010 being the discovery of mechanically gated ion channels called PIEZOs. The past decade of research has provided valuable information about the functional roles and mechanisms of these molecules, particularly PIEZO2, leading to a better understanding of touch and other types of mechanosensation.
