Two Ecological Tools for Testing Slowness of Information Processing in Italian Patients with Moderate-to-Severe Traumatic Brain Injury

Summary: This study aimed to adapt and test the ecological instruments for assessing Slowness of Information Processing (SIP) in Italian patients with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), as well as explore the relationship between SIP and other neuropsychological processes and functional outcomes. The results showed good clinical and psychometric properties of the adapted instruments, with significant correlations between performance on the Mental Slowness Observation Test (MSOT) and executive functions. In addition, TBI patients exhibited slower and less accurate performance on the MSOT compared to healthy controls, particularly in tasks with time limits. There was also a significant correlation between the subjective feeling of SIP measured by the Mental Slowness Questionnaire (MSQ) and performance on the MSOT. Furthermore, performance on the MSOT was correlated with functional outcome measures and community integration.
