Postsynaptic structure formation of human iPS cell-derived neurons takes longer than presynaptic formation during neural differentiation in vitro

Kazuyuki Togo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to elucidate the process of synapse formation in neurons differentiated from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC-neurons). The findings showed that hiPSC-neurons expressed synaptic markers after 49 days of in vitro differentiation, with some differences in expression levels compared to normal brain tissues. The study also confirmed the robustness and reproducibility of the neuronal differentiation method, which could be beneficial for future research.

Phosphorylation of GAP-43 T172 is a molecular marker of growing axons in a wide range of mammals including primates

Masayasu Okada et al.

Summary: GAP-43 is a vertebrate neuron-specific protein strongly associated with axon growth and regeneration. The phosphorylation site T172 is widely conserved across a range of mammals, making it a potential new candidate molecular marker for growing axons.
