A framework for designing medical devices resilient to low-resource settings

Davide Piaggio et al.

Summary: This study developed a framework consisting of 26 essential criteria for resilient MD design through Delphi study and Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA). International experts evaluated and selected these criteria, which were validated by analyzing MDs in the WHO Compendium of innovative health technologies for low-resource settings. This holistic framework considers domains typically overlooked by MD designers, aiding experts in designing MDs resilient to low-resource settings and assisting policymakers and non-governmental organizations in shaping the future of global healthcare.
